The bridgehead in Ingolstadt is a subdistrict of the Ingolstadt Mitte district . It is located south of the Danube , opposite the old town and was named after the area's former function as a bridgehead . In this sub-district there are mainly parks, the Klenzepark and the Luitpoldpark , as well as numerous buildings of the Ingolstadt fortress . These include the Reduit Tilly , which contains the First World War section of the Bavarian Army Museum and the Triva tower , in which the Bavarian Police Museum is housed. The Saturn Arena and the Leo von Klenze School are also located on the bridgehead. The largest company is the Donaukurier publishing house . The Brückenkopf sub-district has 533 main residents (as of December 31, 2015).

In ancient times, the Romans built fortresses and barriers here to make it difficult for the Germans to cross the Danube. At that time the Danube formed the border between the Roman Empire and the Germanic and Franconian Empire.
