According to the local historian Stefan Winkelmeyr, the name goes back to the story of a craftsperson who stayed at the Gerolfing landlord and had no money for the colliery, but gave the landlord a box of valuable clocks from which a ticking could be heard. It was only after a week and the lad's disappearance that the landlord looked into the box and discovered that he had been deceived: instead of watches, there were only cockchafer in the box.
