The Larve (original title Gjenferd ) is a crime novel by the Norwegian author Jo Nesbø from 2011. It is the ninth part of the Harry Hole series.

action

It has been three years since Harry Hole left Norway and settled in Hong Kong . There he cured his alcohol and drug addiction.

When he hears that the now eighteen-year-old son Oleg of his great love Rakel is under strong suspicion of murder of Gusto Hanssen, a friend of Oleg's, he returns to Oslo to prove Oleg's innocence.

During Harry's absence, among other things, the drug trade in Oslo has changed: With the help of the drug lord Asajev, the interior senator Isabelle Skøyen and the police officer Mikael Bellmann are cleaning up Oslo's drug dealers and using this for their careers. In return, Asajev is given control of all drug trafficking in Oslo with a new drug called Violin . Oleg, Gusto and his half-sister Irene are also dependent on Violin and hire themselves out as dealers.

Harry is now investigating the murder independently, as he continues to believe in Oleg's innocence. After collecting enough clues to relieve Oleg, he was about to fly back to Hong Kong when he received another tip from Beate Lønn, head of forensic technology at the Oslo police.

As part of his investigation, he learns more and more about Oleg's involvement in the drug trade and finally finds evidence of Oleg's perpetration - the pistol that Gusto was shot with in Oleg's drug stash. When Harry confronts Oleg, he is also shot down with three bullets by Oleg. His death is hinted at.
