Jo Nesbø

Jo Nesbø (born March 29, 1960 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian musician and author . He was best known for his detective novels about Chief Inspector Harry Hole .

Life

Nesbø was born the son of a librarian . As a teenager, he had hopes of a career as a professional footballer, which he had to give up after ruptured cruciate ligaments .

After training as a business graduate and financial analyst at the Norwegian Business School in Bergen, he worked as a broker and journalist alongside his work as a singer and composer for the pop group Di Derre . Today he is a full-time writer .

The main character of the Harry Hole series is the alcoholic, single chief inspector Harry Hole, who has to solve mostly brutal murder cases.

Nesbø received the Norwegian Riverton Prize in 1997 and the Scandinavian Crime Prize ( Glasnøkkelen ) in 1998 for his debut novel Flaggermusmannen . His novel Rotkehlchen brought him the Norwegian book trade award in 2000 and was voted best Norwegian crime novel of all time in 2004 ( Tidenes best norske krim ).

To date, his books have been sold around 20 million times and have been translated into 47 languages, including Swedish, Finnish, Danish, English, German, Dutch, French, Russian, Polish, Czech, Slovenian, Croatian and Hungarian.

In 2014 the film adaptation of Doctor Proktor's Pupspulver based on one of his children's books was published. In 2016 the Norwegian Rivertonklubben awarded him the Prize of Honor ( Rivertonklubbens ærespris ).

In October 2017, the film adaptation of his novel Snowman from the Harry Hole series premiered.
