The Legends of the Dream Trader (also The Tale Of the Child Pedlar ) is a Manhwa by the Korean illustrator Lee Jeong-a , in which this well-known fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen is reinterpreted. The central figure is the dream dealer who steers the fairy tales in a new direction. Manhwa, which has been around 850 pages long and has been published since 2004, was originally designed for young girls and can therefore be assigned to the Seongin genre.

In Sleeping Beauty , the queen is unhappy about her marriage because the king prefers to stay in his art studio and create sculptures instead of trying to find offspring. The queen then receives a pill from the dream dealer, with which she creates a desired child. Sleeping Beauty is born and the king is so enthusiastic about the child that he only cares about her. When a curse is pronounced, which prophesies Sleeping Beauty hundred years of sleep, it destroys all spinning wheels in the country. However, when Sleeping Beauty is 15 and the first admirers appear, he becomes jealous. He remembers the curse and a diabolical plan goes through his head.

In Hansel and Gretel , the children get lost in the forest and come across the dream dealer's house, where they finally settle down. But the dream dealer must soon realize that the children are not as innocent as it appears.

Then the dream dealer meets the little mermaid, with whom he makes a bet. If she succeeds in conquering the prince within 15 days without her bewitching voice, she may keep the human legs that the dream dealer has procured for her. If it doesn't succeed, it crumbles into foam. The mermaid agrees, but conquering the prince is not as easy as expected, since he doesn't seem to be interested in women.

In Little Red Riding Hood she lives with her stepmother, who, however, doesn't particularly like the child and prefers her own children, while she always kills Little Red Riding Hood herself. To get rid of her, the stepmother sends the girl to the grandmother in the woods and gives him a basket of food. Since the way there is very long, she also gives Little Red Riding Hood something to eat on the way, but the food is poisoned.

Subsequently, an arrogant young Crown Prince is said to have the coronation robe tailored by a poor seamstress. But he feels offended by the seamstress and tries to thwart her efforts by secretly sabotaging her work again and again. The seamstress does not give up tailoring the emperor's new clothes , which slowly leads to a rethinking of the crown prince.

Then a young man finds a Marthago cat. This is a cat that will only accept a master if he can see its true (human) form. And then she granted him three wishes. But the fulfillment of the third wish means the death of the desire.

The pretty daughter of a boastful miller is supposed to spin straw into gold, but she can't. She has three days to do this, otherwise she will be executed. The little elf Rumpelstiltskin , who fell in love with her, wants to help her. As a condition for his help, she should marry him.

A schoolgirl accidentally conjures up the demon Barbatos and cannot get rid of him.

Publications

The Manhwa has been published in South Korea in individual chapters in the comic magazine Sugar published by Seoul Cultural Publishers since 2004 . Since February 2005 he has also published the individual chapters in anthologies, four of which have been published so far.

Tokyopop has been publishing the anthologies in Germany since May 2007. So far there are six volumes in German translation.
