Political discussion groups

In the Neue Gesellschaft there were two political discussion groups from 1991 to around 2011: the "international discussion group for politics and culture" in cooperation with the DGB and the "discussion group for life and politics", which was aimed specifically at repatriates. Over 20 participants took part in the talks, moderated by Joachim Federwisch.

The continued existence of 2006 endangered

After a considerable cut in funds by the state center for political education, the managing director in January 2006 was unable to present the board with a financial concept that would guarantee the continued existence of the new company. The board then decided to stop the association's activities. Employee contracts were terminated on June 30, 2006. The deputy chairwoman of the board and Joachim Federwisch were entrusted with winding up the association. Joachim Federwisch then took a close look at the numbers and developed a tough restructuring plan that enabled the association to continue. On October 1st, 2006 Joachim Federwisch was appointed the new managing director and entrusted with the task of leading the Neue Gesellschaft out of the crisis.

Dr. Joachim Federwisch was managing director for many years until 2015. He passed away on August 26, 2018 at the age of 69. His successor is Antje Windler.
