Die Strafe is a punk band from Mönchengladbach that was founded in 1992 and has always played in the same line-up since it was founded. The band has released four albums and several singles so far. Die Strafe makes minimalistic, melodic, sometimes somber punk rock with German lyrics.

history

After the release of the first EP in 1994, a 7 "single, the songs of which were recorded by the band themselves in the rehearsal room with the support of Junge, the singer of EA80 , and released on their own, some fanzines and not least the Beri label Beri Records from Hamburg took notice of the band. A year later the first LP of Die Strafe came out on this label. A year later the second LP was released there. Both releases were initially only available on vinyl. Not until 1996 Both albums were also released on CD.

Although Die Strafe has made repeated appearances throughout Germany since it was founded and in fact never dissolved, there was a longer break in the publications until the third album (as LP and CD) was released in 2008. The fourth album came in 2016, this time as an LP with an mp3 download code and CD.

In 2015, the band imitated the well-known torch video of the Trier NPD , which shortly before went viral due to its obscurity and the above all rhetorical awkwardness of the three right-wing extremists. In the parody Die Strafe re-enact the video disguised as cavemen. The slogan “Colorful Trier, not with me - 444!” Became “333 - my brain is porridge”.

Music genre

Like EA80, the band comes from Mönchengladbach and is friends with them. The bands have often performed together. The musical style is also similar: dark punk rock with rather sophisticated, subtle lyrics and a penchant for black humor. Already on the first single the band scratched the slogan “We're better than EA 80” on the vinyl. However, with Die Strafe a deliberately amateurish approach and a somewhat trashy sound are in the foreground. Die Strafe also became known for the fact that they often swap instruments live. The reason for this is that the songs are always performed by the band member that she wrote.
