The three dogs is a fairy tale ( AaTh 300). It is in Ludwig Bechstein's German Fairy Tale Book at position 49 (1845 No. 67).

A shepherd leaves the children a house and three sheep. The daughter chooses the house, the son goes away with the sheep. A man exchanges them for three dogs named “Bring Food”, “Zerreiß'n” and “Brich Stahl und Eisen”. The first brings the son wonderful food. He meets a funeral wagon that drives the princess to the kite, which eats a girl every year. The son chases the second dog on him, keeps the dragon's teeth, but does not want to go with the princess, but wants to hike for another three years. The coachman forces her to swear to pass him off as a savior. The king promises them to him for a year. She asks for another two years. The hero comes, is locked up, the third dog frees him. The first one gets food from the princess, she recognizes him and tells the father. They marry, the driver is punished. When the sister also comes, the dogs fly away as birds.
