Summary

The glittering world begins with an introduction to the anthology written by "IV Hess". In it, the attempt by the artist “Harriet Burden” is retold from different perspectives, with which she “... not only wanted to expose the misogynistic tendency of the art world, but also to make the complex functioning of human perception visible ...”. Then countless companions of the artist Harry have their say, including her children, an art critic and "Phineas Q. Eldridge". He is one of the three male straw men with whose help Harry exhibited her own works of art in order to expose the misogynist art scene in the finale.

reception

During that time , Susanne Meyer reviewed the novel as ambivalent: “Some of the characters in the novel are quite lively, dazzling and funny. The bulky son who cleverly withdraws from his mother, the cordial tranny with whom Harriet exhibits - perfect. But a few characters and many clever references and myriads of fragmented philosophical-psychological discussions do not make a good narrative. "

At Popshot.over-blog.de different readings of the novel are identified: “If you like, you can see the whole thing as a moving story between conflicting characters and cheer for how the experiment develops. If you want, you can also take up one of the countless threads and delve much deeper into the background of art and culture, psychology and philosophy, identity and interpersonal relationships. "

According to the book report, in the category “Fiction / Hardcover” in the 21/2015 issue, the novel achieved position 7 on the German book market as the highest ranking.
