Young Einar and his parents moved from Trondheim to a lighthouse by a Norwegian fjord. His parents are researchers, and he too is always driven out to research new plants and animals. One day a violent storm rages and Einar's dog Odin, a gift from his parents, desperately wants to go outside. Einar actually opens the door for him after some hesitation, and his dog runs away. Since Einar is worried, he goes in search of the dog, but he does not find it, but loses consciousness at the sea after repeatedly calling Odin's name.
Einar wakes up on an island. There he met the ravens Hugin and Munin , the very cheeky companions of the god Odin . Because Odin believes that Einar called him, he sent him the magical island. Einar becomes Odin's research assistant and experiences numerous journeys into the past with Odin, Hugin and Munin, where Einar has jobs to do for Odin. Primarily, however, Einar mostly helps the people he meets and who urgently need help. Whenever Einar travels into the past, he has to go into a hut and put on the clothes from a locker, which are traditional for the respective country. He can follow the very fast journey of the magical island on a map, only in Volume 10, when he is traveling to Atlantis, he cannot make out the location on the map, because nobody knows whether Atlantis ever existed or where it was lay. The hut changes after every trip.
When Einar travels in time, which is mostly the case, time stops in the real world, which is why he doesn't have to give his parents an explanation of his absence. In Volume 6, however, Einar travels in the present, and only a few coincidences prevent anyone from finding out about the magical island.

Adjustment of the book series
In 2010 the 14-volume book series was discontinued by Loewe Verlag due to low sales. In Volume 14 there are no allusions to a last commission.
