The ranks of the medical officers in the German navies changed only insignificantly.

Prussian Navy

Until 1898

  • Resident doctor 1st class
  • Naval Staff Physician
  • Chief Medical Officer 2nd class
  • First class medical officer
  • General physician 2nd class
  • General doctor 1st class

Imperial Navy

Since 1873 there were medical officers on leave , reserve officers up to naval chief medical officer .

  • Navy Chief Medical Officer 1st class (until 1901)

  • Naval Officer General Rear Admiral

The title "General Staff Doctor" was reserved for the chief of the Marines Medical Corps and did not indicate a rank.
