Dieter Vaupel (born April 2, 1950 in Spangenberg ) is a German educator and political scientist.

Life

He studied politics, geography and educational science at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and completed his studies with the first state examination for teaching at secondary schools and secondary schools in 1972. After the second state examination, he initially worked as a teacher at various schools in North Hesse .

In 1983, as part of a teaching project with students, he uncovered the history of the former Hessisch Lichtenau concentration camp external command , established contacts with survivors, initiated the erection of a memorial stone on the former camp grounds and the creation of a memorial path through the former explosives factory in Hessisch Lichtenau .

From 1984 he studied politics and history at the comprehensive university in Kassel and worked there as a pedagogical assistant in the department of education since 1986. In 1990 he did his doctorate with a case study on forced labor and compensation to become a Dr. rer. pole.

From 1990 to 2017 Vaupel worked again at schools in North Hesse in school management functions as well as in the training and further education of teachers. He developed and tested a concept for individualized learning in weekly schedule lessons in secondary schools .

Vaupel also dedicated a large part of his work to the historical and educational reappraisal of the National Socialist past. For years he organized eyewitness talks with Blanka Pudler and other Auschwitz survivors .

After he retired as director of a comprehensive school in 2017, Vaupel works as a lecturer in the field of history didactics at the University of Kassel . In 2018, after the death of Blanka Pudler, he published a biography as classroom reading. In recent times he worked biographically on Egbert Hayessen , the resistance fighter of July 20, 1944 , who had been almost forgotten by then, and initiated the naming of a square in his former place of residence after him.
