Schematic structure of diethylaminoethyl cellulose: the positively charged DEAE groups bind negatively charged ions

Diethylaminoethyl cellulose ( DEAE-C for short ), CAS number : 9013-34-7, polymer composition (C 12 H 24 O 5 N) n , is a weakly basic anion exchanger that is frequently used . The white, flammable powder is made from cellulose by replacing the hydrogen atom of a hydroxyl group with the diethylaminoethyl group. DEAE-C is used technically for the chromatographic separation and purification of high molecular weight proteins .
