Dietrich I of Meissen

Dietrich I. , also Theodoric († around 1040 ) was Bishop of Meissen from 1024 to 1040 .

Dietrich I was ordained bishop by the Magdeburg Metropolitan Humfried . He was the founder of the St. Afra Church . He took part in the Synod of Frankfurt convened by Konrad II in 1027, reported by the Wolfhere von Hildesheim . Meißen and Lausitz became a theater of war between the emperor and Mieszko II. Lambert . The emperor destroyed temples and " idols " of the Wends and excluded those who did not want to profess the Christian faith from privileged positions. Dietrich died either at the end of 1039 or in the first half of 1040. He was buried in Meißner Dom , his tomb has not been preserved.
