KK DigiCube ( Japanese 株式会社 デ ジ キ ュ ー ブ , Kabushiki kaisha Dejikyūbu ) was a Japanese company. It existed from 1996 to 2003 when it was dissolved due to bankruptcy .

founding

DigiCube was founded on February 6, 1996 as a subsidiary of Square . The company's primary purpose was to sell video games , but it also sold merchandising items such as books , toys and CDs . DigiCube took on the role of a wholesaler . It also appeared as a publisher of video game music .

Initially DigiCube was very successful and set new sales records. This peaked in 1998 with a turnover of 46.8 billion yen from the sale of eight million units.

The End

After the announcement that Final Fantasy XII was not to be released until 2004 and not earlier, they filed for bankruptcy at the Tokyo District Court on November 26, 2003.

The debt level at that time was 9.5 billion yen.

The marketing rights were transferred in 2003 to Square Enix, which was founded this year .
