Digital brainstorming

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Digital Brainstorming is a project of reflection on digital art and culture in Switzerland that has existed since 1998. Accompanying the digital change, digital works are brought together that deal critically, technically and culturally with the issues of digitization . Through the artistic examination of digitization, participatory approaches are linked to social issues of the future. Concept ideas, objects, texts and works from the fields of digital culture and media art will be shown.

history

Due to the development of the Internet, the Migros Culture Percentage in 1998 felt called upon to support Swiss media art in the form of cultural funding and presence, as it receives comparatively little funding from traditional cultural institutions. Digital art forms and discourses shape future civil societies. In this way, the Migros Culture Percentage fulfills the self-imposed mandate of culture for everyone.

Initially, media art works that dealt with the emergence of digital culture were funded and collected on DVD . These works were initially published in 2008 and 2009 as “work contributions for digital culture” and in 2010 and 2011 in the series “Digital Culture and Media Art in Switzerland” by Christoph Merian Verlag together with Migros Culture Percentage .

In the context of the Digital Brainstorming event series, the Edition Digital Culture was published from 2014 to 2019. The series was concluded in 2019 with Volume 6 on the subject of Virtual Reality.

Act

Activities range from exhibitions, collections and publications to public discourses. Questions of digitization in sound art and video art, in net art, interactive art, hacking, conceptual art as well as do-it-yourself, remix and media art will be addressed.
