The Digital Print Order Format , or DPOF for short , is a storage format used for digital photography in which additional information about the images on the memory card can be recorded for printing on a printer or in the photo lab, such as number of copies, paper format, image -Text and title, image orientation.

The information is usually stored as a text file in a special directory and can be edited using one of the camera menu items. The memory card can then be taken to a photo lab or connected to a DPOF-compatible printer at home to print out the pictures.

DPOF was by a consortium of printer manufacturers, including Canon, Inc. , Eastman Kodak , Fujifilm and Co. Matsushita Electric Industrial developed. After the first publication in October 1998, the specification was extended to version 1.10 on July 17, 2000.

The current version includes the following options:

  • Print multiple images on one sheet
  • Specifying the paper size of the printout
  • Sending pictures via fax and internet
  • Generating slide shows with an auto-play feature.
