The Dijle Löwen Canal (formerly Canal de Louvain ) is a small size canal in Belgium (Class II, 600 tons). It connects lions with the navigable part of the Dijle .

history

The canal was built in 1750 for a brewery in Leuven. Its original name in Dutch is Leuvense Vaart, which means "Löwener Kanal". This makes it the oldest canal in Belgium.

The canal is 30 km long and has five locks . He walks past the city of Mechelen .
