Dina Mangabeira

Dina Mangabeira , actually Bernarda Carvalho de Rezende , (born August 20, 1923 in Bocaiúva , † February 11, 2000 in Belo Horizonte ) was a Brazilian poet . She was a member of the Academy of Literature in the state of Minas Gerais .

Dina was born in a farm called "Morro Agudo". Her family name "Mangabeira" is a traditional family name in Montes Claros and goes back to her grandfather, who collected the "Managabeira" latex (lat. Hancornia speciosa ) for rubber production in Bahia .

Mangabeira was a teacher from 1945 to 1948, after which she married and devoted herself to poetry. Mangabeira was honored with the Santos Dumont Medal from the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais for her poetic work .

Dina Mangabeira died in February 2000 of cancer in Belo Horizonte .
