Diodati (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Diodati is a neoclassical band founded around 2000 that emerged from the band “Westwerk”. The central concern and motif of the artistic work is, on the one hand, dealing with classical poetry and composition. This results in the use of quotations and set pieces in one's own work. On the other hand, Diodati sees itself as an open, artistic "project" and less as a band. Around a solid core of people, other musicians and artists are given the freedom to participate in creative work and to contribute themselves.

history

Diodati and their founding members Gwydion and AjNa emerged from the Gothic band "Westwerk" around 2000. At the beginning, the band limited itself to setting classical texts by well-known authors to music with classical piano music and performing them live. In the course of this work, the first recordings were made and were compiled on CD under the title "I" and published in-house.

Over the years, more and more own texts were set to music and more own compositions were created. This is how the first studio album “Souls Lament” came about, a concept album that is structured like a drama and has the impossibility of love as its content. With this album Diodati signed their first label deal with "Bright-Light-Records" in September 2005. Gwydion, AjNa and Tysja made it their maxim to combine many different styles and genres of music.

In 2007 AjNa and Gwydion decided to record a classical CD in the style of the "I" again. The theme of "Dream" was to run through the CD as a common thread and so "Traumschaudergespinste" was created, which, like the first classic CD, was self-distributed.

After a successful collaboration, AjNa and Tysja withdrew from the creative process of finding songs, but remained loyal to the project during recordings and on stage. New members of the band were Svyati on cello and Elias on piano and double bass . Together they began working on the concept album "Diem supremum obire" ( Latin : 'to go towards the last day'), which deals with death in all its facets. Work on it began back in 2007 when Gwydion and Svyati got to know each other, but the CD was not released until October 2011 after a label change to Körpererschall Records .

During the final work on "Diem supremum obire" the band was already busy with new compositions and texts and after the release they continued to work constantly on the next album. In November 2013 "Susurrus Lake" was released, the first CD that is not a concept album. According to the musicians, the songs should be understood more as collages, which should allow the listener to associate their own stories and images with them. The only fixed point is the image of the lake, which can also be found in the album title ( eng . : 'Geflüstersee') and is the title track in the center of the album. Whispering as a stylistic device runs through the album. The rest of the compositional implementation also differs from its predecessors and is supplemented by the use of electronic and industrial elements.
