from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dionysius of Vienne († 193 in Vienne ) was Bishop of Vienne, martyr and saint .

Dionysius was of Greek origin. According to tradition, he was the successor of Justus as Bishop of Vienne and had held this office since 177. He then suffered martyrdom under Emperor Septimius Severus . However, a much later date is also possible; Paracodus is considered to be Dionysius' successor in the episcopate, whose successor, Verus II, is again documented at the beginning of the 4th century.

The saint's feast day is May 8th .
