Blair Atholl Mill

Blair Atholl Mill is an undershot water mill in the Scottish Highlands . It is located on Ford Road in Blair Atholl in the county of Perthshire in the Council Area Perth and Kinross .

history

The first written mention of a water mill on the site of today's mill comes from the late 16th century. Until the 20th century, grain was ground at the same place with the help of water power. It was not until 1929 that the water mill, which had been modernized several times, was shut down, as it was no longer competitive with large machine-driven mills. In 1977 the mill was restored and put back into operation. It is still powered by water power.

Blair Atholl Mill today

Although the mill is back to work, Blair Atholl Mill is now mostly a tourist attraction. The flour produced in the mill is largely baked on the spot and the bread is sold in the mill 's own shop. The mill is open to the public from April to October.
