Dip prasad pun

Dip Prasad Pun (CGC) (* 1981 ) is a British Gurkha with the rank of sergeant . In 2011, he was the first Nepalese soldier to serve the British Crown to receive the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross Medal of Valor , the second highest award in the British Armed Forces .

Pun fought off an attack by 12–30 Taliban fighters in Afghanistan alone. Pun was alone as a guard at a checkpoint near Babaji in Helmand Province on September 17, 2010. To repel the attack, he fired more than 400 rounds, threw 17 hand grenades and detonated an M18 Claymore that killed two Taliban attackers . When a final assailant tried to scale his position, his weapon jammed and he killed him with the tripod of his machine gun. He saved the lives of his comrades who were inside the checkpoint.

Pun comes from western Nepal . Pun's father and grandfather also served in the British Army . His grandfather was awarded the highest British military medal , the Victoria Cross , in 1944.
