Diple (paleography)
The Diple (διπλῆ Greek, the double ') or double hook was originally an in antique Greek manuscripts used characters and identified as a zig-zag mark ( ϟ ) in comments on the outskirts of the quotes from the original text. In medieval manuscripts, the diple has also appeared in the forms V , Y , 7 or s since the 7th century . When copying texts with a double, errors often happened, especially if one did not pay special attention to the double when copying it, so the characters were forgotten or moved to other places.
