The Diprotodontidae are a family of Australian-New Guinean megafauna within the Vombatiformes . Animals belonging to this family existed from the late Oligocene to the late Pleistocene and were among the largest marsupial mammals in geological history.

General systematics

The Diprotodontidae is divided into two subfamilies , the subfamily Diprotodontinae and the subfamily Zygomaturinae , named after their most famous representatives, Diprotodon and Zygomaturus . The family Diprotodontidae together with the family Palorchestidae form the superfamily Diprotodontoidea .
