Dirk Johan Stromberg

Dirk Johan Stromberg is an American composer and music teacher.

Stromberg grew up in Great Britain, Switzerland and the Netherlands. He studied music at Texas Tech University and Brooklyn College . He then taught u. a. at Brooklyn College, İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi and Saigon Technology University . He has given guest lectures at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory, the National University of Vietnam, the University of the Philippines and the School of the Arts in Singapore. He was also the founding director of the Ho Chi Minh City International Festival of Contemporary Music, which is dedicated to the exchange between Vietnamese, American, European and Asian musicians, and the founder of the Bilgi Interactive Sound Project .

In his compositions Stromberg combines elements of classical music, jazz and improvisational music, Asian music and the avant-garde. They have been performed in the USA as well as in Europe, broadcast on the radio and recorded on CD (including a double CD with the composition Tropendrift based on poems by Albert Hagenaars ). Stromberg was composer in residence at the Studio for Electronic Instrumental Music (STEIM) in Amsterdam and at the Brooklyn Center for Computer Music .
