Discus disease

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The discus disease is a disease that occurs in discus fish . It is a summary of a highly infectious symptomatology, which could not yet be defined as a specific disease.

description

In the affected discus fish, initially a dark color and in the further course of the disease the detachment of the mucous membrane can be seen. The animals separate themselves from the group and have difficulty maintaining their swimming position. In the final stage, the discus fish lie flat on the bottom of the aquarium and perish. The cause of the discus epidemic has not been clarified, and a research project at the University of Düsseldorf was canceled without result. Since the infection is invariably transmitted by newly acquired discus fish, it is advisable to quarantine newly acquired discus fish. If the new discus fish are normal during the first days of quarantine, a fish from the old stock should be added. If there are still no abnormalities after 2 days, it can be assumed that there will be no outbreak of the disease.

treatment

Treatment of the discus disease is only promising in the early stages - one to two days after the conspicuous symptoms have been observed - with appropriate antibiotics .
