Degree of dissipation
The degree of dissipation δ (Greek: delta) or D is the measure of the “lost” or dissipated intensity . Its value is between 0 and 1.
The degree of dissipation is related to several other quantities that describe the behavior of radiation in a medium.
- The degree of transmission τ or T is a measure of the transmitted intensity.
- The degree of reflection ρ or R is a measure of the reflected intensity.
- The degree of absorption α or A is a measure of the absorbed intensity.
These quantities are related via the following relationships:
- ρ + α = 1
- ρ + τ + δ = 1
- α = τ + δ
