Dissoleucas niveirostris is a beetle from the family of weevils (Anthribidae). It is also known as the white-snouted weevil .
features
The beetles are 2–4 mm long. The top is brownish. The trunk and the ends of the wing covers are hairy white. In the spaces between the elytra, there are numerous dark cusps, with those in the third space being the largest. There are small bright spots between these. About the neck shield a white longitudinal line that widens behind the transverse bar runs centrally. The label is also white. The brown legs have a white striped pattern.
distribution
The species is widespread in Europe. They occur in the north as far as Scandinavia. In England Dissoleucas niveirostris occurs only in the south and is considered rare. The occurrence of the species extends in the east to Russia and the Caucasus (Georgia).
Way of life
Dissoleucas niveirostris is a forest-bound beetle species. The saprophage larvae develop in the dead branches of various deciduous trees, including oaks . The adult beetles can be seen from May. Different trapping methods indicate that the beetles are mainly close to the ground. There you can often find them in the moss, under tree bark or on branches.
