The 1971/72 season was the Allsvenskan's third season in chess .

Events

The competition dates were October 24, November 14, December 5, 1971, January 23, February 5, March 5 and March 26, 1972.

Division I Norra

In the northern relay, the Wasa SK was in a class of its own and prevailed by six points. Last year's champion Södra SS had to be content with sixth place. From the Division II were Upsala ASS and the Gnarps SK ascended. While Upsala achieved relegation, Gnarps had to relegate together with Örebro Schacksällskap directly.

Division I Södra

In the southern season, Lunds ASK and last year's finalist Malmö AS fought head-to-head for the final. The direct comparison ended in a draw, both teams defeated all other competitors, and so the better board point yield tipped the balance in favor of Lund. The Lundby Schacksällskap and the Ystad Schacksällskap were promoted from Division II . While Lundby achieved relegation, Ystad had to relegate together with the Helsingborgs Schacksällskap directly.

final

In the final, the winners of the two seasons met with Wasa SK and Lunds ASK. Wasa secured a good starting position with a 5: 3 in the first leg, but Lund managed to turn the tide with a 7: 1 victory in the second leg.
