The tournament was divided into a preliminary round and a final round. The eight participating teams first played a simple round-robin tournament . The first four played for the title in Poule Haute , the last four in Poule Basse against relegation. The total of the team points (1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw, 0 points for a defeat), then the number of board points (1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw) decided the placement , 0 points for a loss). For the final placement, both the points from the preliminary round and the points from the final round were taken into account.

The competitions were held on October 19, November 16 and 23, December 14, 1997, January 4 and 25, February 1, March 8 and 22, 1998.
Note : In the competition between Echternach and Belvaux, the second board was not occupied by both teams and therefore scored 0-0.

Poule Haute
Bonnevoie was already 2 points ahead with 7-0 points. Only in the last lap, when the title was defended, were Bonnevoie Belvaux defeated, who achieved second place with this victory.
After the preliminary round, Dudelange's second team had already been relegated, while Differdange's second team's chances were more theoretical. Although this came closer to half a point on Dommeldange-Beggen through victories against Dommeldange-Beggen and Dudelange's second team, but Dommeldange-Beggen defeated Dudelange's second team and thus achieved relegation.
