Diwan-e Schams-e Tabrizi
The Diwan-e Schams-e Tabrizi ( Persian دیوان شمس تبریزی Dīwān-e Schams-e Tabrīzī ) or Dīwān-e Shams for short(also Dīwān-e Kabīr ) is a work of the Persian mystic Jalal ad-Din ar-Rumi and isconsidered one of his masterpiecesalong with the Masnawi . It is also one of the outstanding works of Sufism and Persian literature in general.
The work is a collection of lyrical poetry in around 25,000 verses. It contains poems of different verses ( odes , elegies , quatrains and ghazeles ) mostly in Persian . There are also other poems in Arabic and mixed Persian / Greek and Persian / Turkish poetry.
Linguistically, the divan is characterized by its skilful use of rhyme and rhythm , which gives its verses enormous power and musicality. According to - and Wortdoppelungen and unusual wordplay make new associations arise that what has been said more important aspects to add and from a linguistic evidence championship and high spiritual depth.
The work was probably written in a period of 30 years from 1243 in honor of Shams-e Tabrizi , Rumi's friend and teacher.
