August Kaden

Wilhelm August Kaden (born September 26, 1850 in Naundorf near Grossenhain , † June 21, 1913 in Dresden ) was a German politician ( SPD ), Member of the Bundestag and Member of the Bundestag, cigar manufacturer and publisher.

Life

Kaden grew up as the son of a worker in Naundorf b. Grossenhain , where he finished his school days at a community school in 1864. Kaden learned the trade of tobacco worker, worked as such and went on a journey that took him to Holland, Switzerland and southern Germany. In 1874 he settled in Dresden as a cigar worker. In 1883 he opened a business in Gohlis as an independent cigar manufacturer and retailer.

From 1886 to around 1893 Kaden lived in Kötzschenbroda ( Uferstrasse 6 ), where he was a member of the municipal council and also ran his August Kaden & Co cigar factory . Felix Kaden was born there in 1892 .

Political activity

From 1874 Kaden was a party functionary of the SPD in Dresden. From 1885 to 1897 he was a member of the state parliament in the Kingdom of Saxony . From 1898 until his death in 1913, Kaden was a member of the Imperial Diet as successor to Wilhelm Liebknecht . He represented the constituency of Saxony 4 (Dresden rd Elbe - Dresden Neustadt).

From 1890 to 1913 Kaden was a member of the central control commission of his party and from 1906 its chairman. From 1906 Kaden was a member of the board of his parliamentary group and from 1912 until his death their treasurer.

In addition, from 1890 Kaden published the Saxon workers' newspaper. In 1898 he was co-founder and co-owner of the printing and publishing house Kaden & Co. , in which the Sächsische Arbeiterzeitung , renamed the Dresdner Volkszeitung in 1908 , appeared.

In Radebeul - Kötzschenbroda Oberort , August-Kaden-Strasse is named after him.
