Dmitri Wiktorowitsch Liwanow ( Russian Дмитрий Викторович Ливанов ; born February 15, 1967 in Moscow ) is a Russian politician of the United Russia party and a physicist .

Life

Liwanow studied physics and mathematics. He is a professor for theoretical physics and metallurgy at the Institute for Steel and Alloys in Moscow. From 2012 to 2016 he was Minister of Education and Science in the Cabinet of the Government of the Russian Federation of Dmitri Anatolyevich Medvedev . His successor was Olga Wassiljewa . Liwanow, in turn, became the President's special representative for trade and economic relations with Ukraine. In October 2018 he was released from his duties.
