Doçent (abbr. Doç.) Is a Turkish academic degree . It roughly corresponds to the title of Privatdozent . The degree “Doçent” stands above the doctorate and does not include any teaching obligation. The main requirement is a successful doctorate . In addition, language skills in one of the main lingua franca and scientific research and publications must be proven. A body called Üniversitelerarası Kurul (“inter-university body”), which was first established in 1946, is responsible for the procedure . It consists of a representative who is appointed by the rectors or deans of each university for two years. This committee determines a five-person jury for each candidate. This checks the publications and holds an oral examination.

The previous name for Doçent was "Müderris" and the Yardımcı Doçent was called "Müderris Muavini".
