docuglobe is a Microsoft Word -based editing system for the creation of technical documentation or other documents that have a certain amount of equal content.

history

As early as the 1990s, the editorial department of what was then technotrans AG , from which gds GmbH later emerged, worked with an IT company from Münster to develop an editing system called DVS (Document Management System) for their own needs. After various expansions and optimizations, the first editorial system with the name doculab was sold to Busch-Jaeger Elektro GmbH , a manufacturer of electrical installation technology, in 2002 .

In 2004 doculab was renamed docuglobe and the strategy for broad marketing was set up. Part of the marketing strategy was the naming of this technotrans division in gds (global document solutions). In connection with the sale of editing software, the creation of technical documentation was also sold with increasing frequency.

Working method

docuglobe follows the approach of database-supported modularization , standardization and structuring .

  1. Documents consist of individual information modules that are created with Microsoft Word. The size of an information module is arbitrary.
  2. The information modules are displayed in a tree structure (similar to Microsoft's file explorer) and managed in a database.
  3. Any file formats (external files) can be managed in a modular manner in order to e.g. B. add attachments to documents and manage graphics.
  4. A document consists of a list of linked information modules and external files (parts list principle). If a document is generated, docuglobe takes on the structure, creates the layout and inserts the graphics and attachments.
  5. docuglobe can be operated both as a client-server system and as a web version ( SaaS ).
  6. Language management makes managing multilingual documents easy and efficient. Once translated, content is used again and again.
  7. The publication can take place across media. z. B. as a PDF file, online help , as an e-book , on tablets or smartphones , as an MS Word document or XML file.

Another special feature of docuglobe is the modularized processing and management of MS PowerPoint presentations. Each slide is only available once and can be used in any number of presentations.
