The Dodwell Painter was a provisional names designated ancient Greek vase painter who works in its Corinthian - black-style decorated. He worked during the Middle and Late Corinthian phases of the style (about 600-550 BC), his works are believed to be between about 580 and 570 BC. Dated.

The Dodwell Painter was one of the most important Corinthian vase painters of his time. He mainly decorated pyxides and oinochoes , but also neck amphorae and hydrates . He mostly painted the vases with animal or equestrian friezes. A pyxis in the Staatliche Antikensammlungen in Munich , known as Dodwell pyxis , is of outstanding importance . On the lid it shows the Calydonian boar hunt and next to it other mythological figures, including Agamemnon , who do not take part in the hunt. However, some of the inscriptions do not belong to the figures described. There is also another important vase in the Villa Giulia in Rome . On a Olpe more are on a Fries Komasten shown dancing around a crater on a second Fries Hercules as against the Hydra fights. In general, his pictures are routine, but not drawn excessively precisely. About 70 decorated vessels are assigned to him, according to Darrell A. Amyx another ten painters can be stylistically assigned to the circle of the Dodwell painter. They too mostly painted pyxides and oinochoes with animal friezes. There are also various successors whose works can be traced back to those of the Dodwell painter.
