Jackdaw (hat)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The jackdaw is a dark men's hat . Originally, thus a high hat or was mostly cylinder meant. A felt product with a cylindrical or round-high head and a fixed brim is typical . The onomatopoeic similarity to Bowler is striking . Until the middle of the 20th century, people in Germany called dark, black or dark brown, older or higher hats colloquially as jackdaws. One of the characters in Bredel's The Fathers is wearing a black jackdaw. In the Kassel dialect one speaks of a high jackdaw if it is an old-fashioned, poor, poor hat.
