The term document production (including document generation , document creation or letter writing ) refers to the automated document creation using a space provided software .

Document generation software accesses stored templates for different types of documents. Layout , corporate design and the position of the text modules thus correspond to a uniform design. Depending on the intended use, it is possible to insert individual texts and addresses or to make changes to the automatically created content. The created document can be saved, printed or electronically, e.g. B. by e-mail . If documents are to be sent to multiple recipients, individually if necessary, serial letters can be created automatically .

Document generation software is mostly used in companies and authorities that often create and send documents with recurring content.
