The Lapua Cathedral ( Finnish: Lapuan tuomiokirkko ) is a Lutheran cathedral in the Finnish city ​​of Lapua ( Swedish: Lappo ).

It was designed by Carl Ludwig Engel in 1824 and completed in 1827 under the direction of the church builder Heikki Kuorikoski .

The cathedral was built as a wooden structure on a cross plan with a dome and a free-standing bell tower .

organ

The church houses the largest organ in Finland with 4 manuals , 88 registers and 6,666 pipes as well as an altar painting by the artist Berndt Godenhjelm from 1845.

graveyard

In the cathedral cemetery there are several memorials and memorials by the artist Yrjö Liipola to commemorate those who fell in the Finnish Civil War 1917/18 and the wars from 1939 to 1944.
