Domenikos Padovas

Domenikos Padovas ( Greek Δομένικος Παδοβάς also Padovanis Παδοβάνης, * July 14, 1817 ; † March 9, 1892 ) was a Greek conductor, organist and composer of the Ionian School .

The Corfu- born, Italian-born, Catholic Padovas first took lessons from Nikolaos Mantzaros and finished his studies with a diploma in Rome . Back in Corfu, he entered the Conservatory of the Philharmonic Society of Corfu , where he worked as a teacher and, after Mantzaros' death, was musical director. He also worked as an organist in the Catholic cathedral. He wrote several works for musical theater, including the three-act opera Dirce, figlia di Aristodemo based on a libretto by the Italian B. Monti, which was premiered in 1857 at the Teatro San Giacomo in Corfu , and the comic one-act act Il Ciarlatano preso per Principe based on a text by Severiano Fogazzi. He also composed 14 odes after Petrarch , a hymn to Kapodistrias , symphonies of Italian style as well as numerous psalm settings, church hymns and Catholic liturgies.
