Doment (z) iolos ( Middle Greek Δομεντζίολος , Latin Domentiolus ; † after 610 ) was a general of the Eastern Roman emperor Phocas .

After the murder of Maurikios and his family by the usurper Phokas, the Sassanid great king Chosrau II declared war on the Eastern Roman Empire . As a result of the rebellion of Narses, who had been quite successful in the defensive struggle, the emperor entrusted his nephew Domentiolos, an inexperienced soldier, as magister militum per Orientem with supreme command of the troops around 604 . At the same time he raised him to the rank of Kuropalate , with which Domentiolos was designated as a possible heir to the throne of the childless emperor. In the Persian War, Domentiolos was no match for his opponents: In the course of the following four years, the Persian troops overran much of Mesopotamia and Syria , Armenia and Asia Minor . He was replaced as commander by his uncle Komentiolos .

In this hopeless situation, Herakleios rose against Phocas in Carthage and overthrew him in 610 from the throne. Domentiolos was also sentenced to death, but pardoned through the mediation of Theodor von Sykeon .
