Dominic Musa Schmitz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dominic Musa Schmitz (* 1987 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German dropout from the Salafist scene .

Dominic Schmitz grew up in Mönchengladbach: "His career sounds like a cliché: child of divorce - stoner - truant - Salafist", wrote the FAZ .

Schmitz came into contact with Islam through a Moroccan friend and converted to Sunni Islam at the age of 17 . He took the name Musa Almani and married a dedicated wife whom he had seen only a few times. He met the Islamist preacher Pierre Vogel and worked as the right hand man of the well-known Salafist Sven Lau . He shot propaganda videos for Lau and made a pilgrimage with him to Mecca . Lau was arrested in December 2015 for supporting a foreign terrorist organization ( § 129a , § 129b StGB) and sentenced to five and a half years in prison in July 2017.

From 2010 onwards, Dominic Musa Schmitz began to have increasing doubts about the radical Salafism movement: “At some point in 2010 I realized that everything that defines me as a person is no longer there. That Salafism relieves me of thinking, acting and feeling. When I realized that correctly, when I became so aware of it, so clearly, I scared myself because it gave me fascist traits. ”In 2013 he finally left the scene. Since then he has been doing prevention work in schools, educating people in his own YouTube channel and writing the book I was a Salafist .

In the 2015/16 season, Schmitz, who continues to profess Islam, was seen as himself at the Schauspiel Köln in Nuran David Cali's research project Faith Fighters - A Search for Religions Between Monastery, Mosque and Synagogue . Because he was looking for the public, he was threatened several times by Islamists, and the convert Bernhard Falk wished him publicly: "May Allah put an end to such types!"
