Dominic of Sora
The holy Dominic of Sora (* 951 in Foligno , Umbria , † 1031 in Sora , Lazio ) was a Benedictine monk , hermit , itinerant preacher and monastery founder .
Even during his lifetime he was considered to be miraculous, and his miracles served to ward off dangers from wolves , bears and, above all, snakes . He himself and a relic of his is venerated in the Abruzzo village of Cocullo , where a snake procession takes place in his honor every year on May 1st.
