Life

Next to his predecessor Falko , Domitian stood at the beginning of the church after the end of the Roman and the beginning of the Frankish rule . Domitian took part in the Synod of Clermont in 535 . He also attended the Synod in Orleans in 549. He Christianized the valley of the Meuse . The building of churches and hospitals is attributed to him. It is also sometimes assumed that he moved the bishopric from Tongeren to Maastricht . This seems to be the misinterpretation of the sources on the Synod of Clermont.

According to a legend, he killed a dragon near Huy and thus saved the threatened city.

He was later venerated as a saint and as a patron saint of fever . His feast day is May 7th. His relics are in Notre-Dame de Huy . His worship was widespread there early on.
