Domus Transitoria
The Domus Transitoria ("Transitional House") was a palace on the Palatine Hill in Rome , which the Roman Emperor Nero had built in the 1st century. The Domus Transitoria connected the old imperial buildings on the Palatine with the "Gardens of the Maecenas" on the Esquiline, which were also owned by the emperor . It was largely destroyed in the fire of Rome in 64 and replaced by the Domus Aurea .
In parts of the Domus Aurea, which should go back to the Domus Transitoria, wall paintings with classical motifs were found; Multi-row ornaments like stylized flowers encompass image fields. The most important element is the kymation , also kyma; these are concave or convex rods as an end strip between individual components. Rows of stucco form the outermost frame. The pictures are quick, but painted precisely. They presumably contain mythological themes , but these cannot be interpreted precisely.
