Don Alder
Don Alder (* Vancouver ) is a Canadian guitarist .
biography
Don Alder spent his toddler days in Montreal , Quebec before his family moved back to British Columbia to the city of Williams Lake . He started playing guitar at the age of 11.
In March 1985, Don Alder took a musical break to accompany his longtime friend Rick Hansen on his man-in-motion circumnavigation of the world.
He writes his own music and has released six CDs so far. His CD "Not A Planet" earned him a 2009 Canadian Folk Awards nomination in the "Instrumental Solo Artist" category.
In 2007 he became International Fingerstyle Champion. In 2010 he won the Guitar Superstar competition. In 2011 he took first place in the World Wide Guitar Idol competition. Don Alder received the Brand Laureate Award in Malaysia in 2013 .
Don Alder's persona appears in the 2008 film "Heart of a Dragon"; he is played by actor Andrew Lee Potts. The film is thematically based on the man-in-motion tour with Rick Hansen. There is also a play called "Rick: The Rick Hansen Story," which is about the man-in-motion tour and also features Don Alder.
Don Alder is a volunteer with the Vancouver Adapted Music Society.
Don Alder also volunteers as an “Artist as Teacher” for DAREarts, a Canadian charity that uses educational experience in the arts to empower children and young people who are particularly challenged with confidence, courage and leadership skills and to develop their potential to lift.
Don Alder performs in many places, not just Canada, but also Europe, the United States, and Asia. If he doesn't want to perform alone, he likes to team up with Keith Knight as "Extreme Guitar Duo".

When Don Alder isn't playing guitar, he writes for Iguitar Magazine.
Don Alder was a guest on Canadian radio in 2011 - on the CBC show "North by Northwest" (NXNW).
The University of British Columbia lists Don Alder as a “Featured Presenter”.
Canadian acoustic guitarist Don Alder should not be confused with the American actor of the same name.
