Parish Church of Don Bosco

Don Bosco is a district of the Belgian city of Torhout in the diocese of Bruges . The parish and the parish church are also consecrated to the Turin social saint and founder Don Bosco .

The district to the west of the city center has its own center, enclosed by housing developments, with a square, a school and the parish church.

Parish church

The church is located in the parish of Don Bosco, founded between 1956 and 1959. In 1959 a building was purchased and converted into a provisional church. A development plan from 1968 provides for a permanent church. This was finally built between 1974 and 1976 according to a design by the architect Aime Pauwels from Kortrijk in collaboration with the local architect René De Deyne . The inauguration took place for the Don Bosco Festival on January 31, 1976.

The hall church with an irregular angular floor plan was built of yellow bricks and concrete. The free-standing bell tower with a cross on the top was built in simple concrete.

Inside it contains stained glass by Jan Leenknegt with the theme pictures "The Last Day of Creation" (1997), "The Morning Star" (2000), "Allelujah" (2003) and "The Heavenly Jerusalem and Hell" (2002) as well as in the weekday chapel "The life-giving water" (2006). The Stations of the Cross are from T. Maergert.
