history

The assembly of the Don Cossacks - the Krug - proclaimed the independence of the Don Republic on May 18, 1918. This happened after the liquidation of the Bolshevik- controlled Don Soviet Republic on May 10, 1918. The Don Army claimed the territory of the Don area with the city of Novocherkassk as its capital. Administratively, the Don republic was divided into ten okrugs. Ataman of the Don Army was Pyotr Nikolayevich Krasnov until 1919 . From 1919, after the support from the German Reich ceased and the military pressure increased, it was integrated into the armed forces of southern Russia .

The name Almighty Don Army is a historical reference to the name of the Don Cossack Army in the 17th century by emissaries of the Tsar.
