The equally-hinged case is rounded, wedge-shaped and triangular and is up to 6 cm long. It is widened and trimmed towards the rear end. The flat rear end drops off very steeply. The posterior dorsal surface is finely granular and concentric. The front edge is tightly rounded. The ventral margin is only slightly convexly curved. The surface line is deeply indented. In the left valve the anterior cardinal tooth is bilobed, the posterior cardinal tooth is only weakly developed. In the right valve the anterior cardinal tooth is short and the posterior cardinal tooth is strongly split with two points. Lateral teeth are missing.

The surface shows fine concentric ridges and fine radial grooves. The ventral margin is finely serrated. The skin is usually whitish to orange on the outside, occasionally with a purple tint. Inside it is colored more or less intensely purple.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The distribution area extends from Mauritania to Angola . The animals prefer sandy soils in shallow water.
